Emerging Conservation Professional
Manuscripts & Archives
Morris Library, University of Delaware
Newark, DE

During Fall 2018, I worked in the sister-department to Special Collections, Manuscript & Archives. Here, I assisted with a few projects, from organizing new acquisitions to maintaining order in the stacks, and more. Due to my background in conservation, my supervisor, Dustin Froelich, gave opportunities to gain some hands-on experience working with the preservation of paper collections.
My duties included:

-
Re-shelving boxes
-
Checking re-shelve slips to ensure that the boxes were in the proper location
-
Removing staples, paperclips, rubber bands, and other foreign materials from a newly acquired collection
-
Completing non-invasive treatments for the preservation of paper objects
-
Assisting with integrated pest management
-
General housekeeping
The skills I learned from this job include:

-
Humidification and flattening of paper objects
-
Integrated pest management
