My duties included:

  • Keeping track of all object handling and moving using EMu software.

  • Assisting museum staff and other interns with object handling and rehousing.

  • Coordinating and participating kin weekly meetings with multiple departments.

  • Receiving training in handling and moving objects, and in escorting people throughout the collections.

During the summer of 2018, I worked as the Registration Intern on the Storage Planning Project at Winterthur Museum, Library & Garden. Here, I not only learned about the duties of the Registration Department in a museum (and developed a love of filling out spreadsheets), but I also learned about the problems that historic home sites face when storing their artifacts. Space is limited, roofs leak, and efforts must often be coordinated weeks in advance between several departments. This internship provided me with experience handling objects, but also with invaluable professional experience that will surely help me in any future position in a museum.
